Jetlag and Spammers
pretty much sums up my last two days
Posted on Sun August 29, 2010 8:59am CDT
I want to let anyone know who put comments on my blog while I traveled that I had to remove them for now. The problem is/was that I was getting spammed too much in a very quick look I counted about 400 in the last month. I tried to ban IP addresses but it wasn’t working, I disabled the “add comment” button and left the comments so the comments that were already posted could still be read, but that didn’t stop the spam. In the end, the only thing that seems to work, and I want to stress, seems to work, was removing the comments all together. It’s funny too, because at one point I tried to figure out what the spamm More...

Summer Vacation 2010
Posted July 11, 2010
After much deliberation I've finally decided on my destination for the extended Summer break this year, and I want to stress that "much deliberation" is no exaggeration. The months leading up to the break I decided I was going to go to Argentina, then changed my mind to do a Western Europe trip from Helsinki to England, and then I decided that what I really wanted to see was Morocco. The idea was Morocco to England. Unfortunately even though I like the idea of crossing the Straits of Gibraltar and all, I wasn't convinced that it would be the best trip for me. So I decided it was back to Helsinki, Finland to England. I brought my tickets and I'll be leaving in about a week. Now comes the part of getting ready for the trip. Follow me |

Meetech.org
Posted June 22, 2010
In keeping with the designing that I've been doing recently, I've started a new site. Actually the site has been up for a while, but it just had one page, and that page was incomplete. Meetech, or Middle Eastern Emerging Technology is my attempt to bring technology based information to the Middle Eastern community. The goal or mission is to create a community of professional, tech people to help answer questions relating to Web design, graphic design, programming, software applications, and information technology. It's nowhere near completed, and I haven't started populating the content, but it is progressing-- which is saying a lot. Go to the site

Latest Web Design Project
Posted June 10, 2010
Well, the hosting site was nearly completed before I started the next site. This one is my web design business, the one that I've been meaning to update for years. It's taken about a week to decide on a design, and about two weeks... maybe less, to put it together. It's not really close to being done, I still have to populate it with content, and add a client area with a support section, but that should take a little bit more than a week or two. It seems pretty dumb to have started this site when I still have to finish my other two recent projects, Profdig and Nowse-hosting.com. Speaking of sites, earlier today I had the chance to check my sites out on a pc and I was so surprised on some of the formatting issues. The structures were okay, but the layouts looked horrible, images placed in the wrong position, text aligned incorrectly, and... and... well that was about it, but I was so angry. I later checked the sites through a service that gives a snapshot of a site from about a hundred different browsers and platforms, and the sites looked perfect except for three browsers; IE6, IE7, and IE8. Geez, the only browsers that don't follow html and css guidelines are made by Microsoft. Figures. The new site |

New Web Design Project
Posted May 24, 2010
There's a lot of things that I like to do, walking, traveling, learning new things, and with everything that I do, it becomes an obsession of sorts. I traveled, but not like everyone else, I went to as many places as I could go in the time allotted, I did the same with my walking. It wasn't okay to walk for an hour, I would start at 7am and walk until I could barely walk anymore, about 25 miles. The examples could go on, but needless to say, I tend to focus on one thing and keep doing it, until something new comes along. That's what's going on right now with my web design projects. I am working on two right now, Profdig.com and Nowse-hosting.com. Profdig I've been working on for about a year, and Nowse hosting for about a week. Although it's tantamount to a jinx to say that I like what the hosting site is forming up to be, I really do like it. It's light with lots of white space, with just a touch of kitsch... kind of my favorite way to design. |

Teaching English
Posted March 21, 2010
So many of my entries are more about me and less about the world around me. To be honest sometimes this makes complete sense, since the site is about me, but then there are other times when I feel that’s I’m being a little bit narcissistic. That’s why I think I like to write about things that I do to help others. About three weeks ago I started teaching English to some of the workers here from India. These guys are kind of considered by the average person to be poorly treated in many regards. They live in single rooms with on average five other workers, at what the rest of us call, “labor camps.” I’ve heard many different stories about their pay and circumstances, and it’s not my purpose to make a political comment about their situations, I just want to say that I want to help if I can.
It’s rewarding to feel like I’m making someone else’s life a little bit better. |

Spring Break in Greece
Posted March 1, 2010
So what do you do? You’ve got four days for what is called, “spring break” and you have to get away somewhere, where or what do you do? For me it’s fairly easy, I travel to some place that I’ve always either been curious about, or have wanted to see for myself. That’s the theory at least. This spring break I’ll be heading to Athens Greece for four days to see some of the sights that I feel that I must see. I’ve been told by many people that I’ll be disappointed, that Athens is basically just a big, dirty city. Oh well, it’s a “must see” city for me, and I’m leaving on the 10th of March to see it. New Years Eve in Sri Lanka
Posted December 18, 2009
This Winter break is going to be a little bit different from my original plans. I was going to be spending my free time in India, and then meet up with a volunteer group for about 7 days before heading back to Dubai. This changed when the group decided at the last minute to go to Sri Lanka instead. We will be flying in to Colombo on the 30th and then heading to our hotel in Kandy before setting out to do some volunteering at the villages that surround Kandy. To be honest, I don't know what to expect, but there are two things that make this trip worthwhile; helping others and seeing Sri Lanka.
Although I haven't created a new blog for this adventure yet, I expect to have one up in the next few days.  Here it is |

I Met the former President of the United States:
Posted November 15, 2009
It seems almost surreal that I got to shake a president’s hand, almost as if it’s really not that impressive. In fact I feel kind of stupid just mentioning it, but in the bigger picture, I don’t think I’ve ever met a mayor, governor, senator, or anyone else in any particular important role in government before. Now within five months I’ve spoken to and shook the hands of Colin Powell and Bill Clinton. So I guess I think I want to mention it. Go to the blog entry.
